January 2 to September 12, 2014 | Nomination Period Nominations may be filed by candidates prior to Nomination Day (September 12, 2014) during regular office hours – Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. |
January 2 to December 31, 2014 | Campaign Period The campaign period begins on the day a candidate files a nomination paper and ends on December 31, 2014 unless the candidate withdraws the nomination, the Clerk rejects the nomination or the candidate continues his or her campaign to erase a deficit. |
September 2, 2014 – October 27, 2014 | Voters’ List Available Eligible voters whose names are not on the voters’ list or whose names appear incorrectly may be added to the list or have the information corrected by filing an application with the Clerk’s Office or at the voting place. |
September 7 – September 12, 2014 | Revision – Application to Remove Another Elector’s Name from the Voters’ List An individual may make an application to remove another voter’s name from the voters’ list. The Clerk is required to hold a hearing unless the voter is deceased. |
September 12, 2014 | Nomination Day Last day for filing nomination papers. Nominations may only be filed with the Clerk’s Office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Withdrawal of Nomination Papers A Candidate may withdraw by notifying the Clerk in writing prior to 2:00 p.m. |
September 15, 2014 | Certification of Nomination Papers The Clerk is to certify or reject nomination papers before 4:00 p.m. Acclamation The Clerk shall declare the eligible candidate(s) to be duly elected by acclamation, after 4:00 p.m., if the number of certified candidates for an office is the same or less that the number to be elected. Proxy Vote Certificates Unless the nomination period is to be reopened for additional nominations, the Clerk’s Office will commence the issue of Proxy Vote Certificates after 4:00 p.m. If additional nominations are received, the period for issuing Proxy Vote Certificates will not commence until after 4:00 p.m. on September 18, 2014. |
September 17, 2014 | Additional Nominations Received If after candidates are acclaimed an office remains vacant, additional nominations may be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Additional nominations may be withdrawn prior to 2:00 p.m. |
September 18, 2014 | Certification of Additional Nominations If the nomination period is reopened, the Clerk shall certify or reject the additional nominations received before 4:00 p.m. |
After 4:00 p.m. September 15 to 5:00 p.m. on October 27, 2014 | Proxy Vote Certificates Unless the nomination period is reopened, Voters may during this period complete an application in the prescribed form to appoint a voting proxy. The voting proxy must then apply at the Clerk’s Office for the proxy voting certificate. Proxy voting certificates cannot be obtained at the voting location. If additional nominations are received, the issue of Proxy Vote Certificates will begin after 4:00 p.m. on September 18, 2014 and end at 5:00 p.m. on October 27, 2014. |
September 22, 2014 | Certificate of Maximum Campaign Spending Limits The Clerk will provide the Certificate of Maximum Campaign Spending Limits to all certified candidates. Interim List of Changes to the Voters’ List The Clerk will prepare and distribute an interim list of the changes to the Voters’ List. |
October 27, 2014 | Voting Day Voting places will open at 10:00 a.m. and close promptly at 8:00 p.m. |
October 28, 2014 | Official Results As soon as possible after Voting Day, the Clerk will declare the Official Election Results. |
December 1, 2014 | Term of Office Commences |
December 31, 2014 | Campaign Period Ends A candidate’s campaign will end on December 31, 2014 unless the candidate’s campaign is in a deficit position and the candidate notifies the Clerk in writing in the prescribed form on or before December 31 that he or she will be extending their campaign under Sections 68, 82.1 of the Act. The campaign may be extended to June 30, 2015. |
February 25, 2015 | Notice of Filing Requirements for Financial Statements The Clerk must advise the candidate of all the filing requirements for financial statements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 and the penalties for missing the deadline. |
March 26, 2015 | Last day for candidate to apply to Superior Court of Justice for an extension for Filing of Financial Statement. Candidate must inform Clerk prior to filing deadline. |
2:00 p.m., March 27, 2015 | Deadline for Filing Financial Statements for reporting period ending December 31, 2014. |
June 25, 2015 | Last Day Compliance Audit Request Last day for compliance audit request for December 31, 2014 reporting period. The Clerk must forward the application to the compliance audit committee within 10 days of receiving the application. Within 30 days, the committee must consider the application and decide whether it should be granted or rejected. The committee’s decision may be appealed to the Ontario Court of Justice within 15 days of issuance. |
June 30, 2015 | Last date for filing Financial Statement for extended campaign if candidate has a deficit. |
